GITM Inspires Social Responsibility Through Blood Donation and Health Awareness

Education is not limited to classrooms and textbooks. It also involves developing social responsibility, empathy, and a spirit of service. Reflecting this vision, Gharda Institute of Technology and Management (GITM), Lavel, organised a blood donation camp along with an awareness programme on Thalassemia and Tuberculosis (TB).
The programme was organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Department of GITM in collaboration with Swasth Foundation, Kolhapur, and Vaibhavlakshmi Blood Center, Kolhapur.
Creating Awareness About Thalassemia and TB
Before the blood donation camp, Anmol Kamath, Chief of Swasth Foundation, Kolhapur, delivered an expert session on Thalassemia and Tuberculosis (TB). The session highlighted the importance of regular blood donation for Thalassemia patients, addressed common misconceptions about blood donation, and provided information about TB awareness, prevention, and treatment.Students participated enthusiastically in the session and interacted with the expert by raising questions and seeking clarification on various concerns. This helped them gain a better understanding of important health issues and the significance of informed social participation.
81 Donors Demonstrate Social Responsibility
Following the awareness session, the blood donation camp was conducted at Gharda Institute of Technology and Management. Students, faculty members, staff, and NSS volunteers participated enthusiastically in the initiative.A total of 81 donors donated blood, demonstrating a strong sense of social responsibility and commitment towards the community. The initiative provided participants with an opportunity to contribute to an important healthcare cause while encouraging the values of compassion and service.The NSS volunteers played an important role in the planning, coordination, and successful execution of the entire programme.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Initiatives such as these reflect the importance of experiential learning and community engagement. At Gharda Institute of Technology and Management (GITM), students are encouraged to develop not only academic and professional skills but also qualities such as teamwork, leadership, empathy, and social responsibility.The programme also received valuable support and cooperation from the institute's management, including Principal Dr. P. B. Patil, Vice Principal Dr. S. K. Patil, and Registrar Prof. Munghate.
